How is Ultrasound assisted Lipo different than traditional liposuction?

Ultrasound Assisted Liposuction (UAL), also known as Vaser lipo, is another technique which has become more popular in recent years.

Ultrasound assisted liposuction (Vaser Lipo) is NOT a new technology. This has been around for over 20 years under name of Sound Surgical and then Vaser.

How is Ultrasound Assisted Lipo different than traditional liposuction?

Ultrasound Assisted Lipo ( Vaser Lipo) is performed under local anesthesia similarly it is done in traditional liposuction. Both procedures use tumescent solution (a solution containing lidocaine, a numbing medication, and epinephrine, for minimizing bleeding) to “blow up” the area prior to liposuction.

Although there are similarities, but vaser lipo (Ultrasound assisted liposuction) has advantages over the traditional lipo, as it uses ultrasound energy to emulsify the fat tissue. A small probe emitting high frequency sound energy is used to break up fat on contact with minimal damage to surrounding tissues. Fat may then be easily extracted with liposuction tubes. The probes are blunt and only apply ultrasound energy and cause minimal injury to the tissue. The ultrasound energy disrupts and loosens the fat cells. The theory is the way the fat cells are disrupted may result in better skin retraction and faster recovery.

UAL is known as LipoSelection because it leaves the surrounding nerves, blood vessels, and tissue virtually unharmed. This helps minimize post-surgical bruising and swelling.
